Mrs. Anna Mae Bowens

Anna Mae Bowens (affectionately known as Nannie) was born on March 14, 1926 to the union of Herbert Melancon and Della Brown Melancon in Mowata, Louisiana. Anna’s parents and five siblings moved to Crowley, Louisiana. Anna Mae met Joseph Henry (George) Bowens in Crowley, Louisiana. They were married on January 29, 1944 at Saint Theresa Catholic Church. To this union two daughters were born, Cheryl Denise Marie and Debbie Marie. Anna Mae and Joseph (George) moved to Galveston, Texas in 1957. They relocated to Houston, Texas with their two daughters in October of 1958. She resided in Houston until God spoke to her (Nannie) on March 11, 2018 saying, “my child, it’s time to come home.” Anna joined Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Houston, Texas where she attended Sunday mass and weekly services faithfully for forty-eight years, a value she instilled in her two daughters. She worked various domestic jobs throughout her live. She took pride in her work and made many life time friends. After retiring from the work force Anna remained fiercely independent. Often running errands and cooking dinners for her family. She prayed the rosary several times each day. As her health began to fail she continued to pray the Holy Rosary several times each day and watched the Holy Mass on her favorite channel EWTN. When she wasn’t praying she enjoyed watching and cheering for the Houston Rockets. Nannie’s generosity and kindness was unparalleled, as she remained a constant and comforting presence in her family. Her warm personality, kind spirit, genuine love projected in her smile and contagious sense of humor touched the lives of all who knew her. Anna is preceded in death by her parents Della and Herbert Melancon, husband Joseph Henry (George) Bowens, three sisters Mary Melancon Bernard, Jessie Mae Melancon Williams and Della Rose Melancon Simon, and one brother Wallace Melancon. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her two daughters Denise Marie Payne and Debbie Bowens of Houston, Texas; one granddaughter Erica Fulton and grandson Martin Bowens of Houston, Texas; one brother Antoine Melancon of Castro Valley, California, two elder nieces Rose Mary Bernard and Willie Mae Minix of Crowley, Louisiana and a host of many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends.
