Mrs Brunette Morris

Mother Morris, a servant of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was taken up into “GLORY” to receive her reward for her labor in his vineyard on November 21. 2019. Brunette Morris was born on October 29.1929 to the parents of Leroy and Roberta Ford in Kennard, TX. She was known as “Theresa” or “Tee” to family and friends in her younger years. She eventually became known to most everyone as “Granny.” Ms Morris attended Dunbar in Lufkin, TX. She often shared her memories of working in Dr. Packer's office as his assistant, after high school. July of 1947 she became the proud wife of Sgt. First Class Hoover Morris. She birthed seven children, Starlean, Nathaniel, Hoover Damone, Kendrick, Karnetta (Kanette), Kenneth (Hoover, Jr.), and Alfonso (Punchy). She resided in Kentucky, Nuremburg and Aschaffenburg Germany, and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, as she traveled with her husband that was enlisted in the U.S. Army. Widowed in 1965 as a result of him being a Vietnam casualty, she acquired a Nurse’s Aide certification. Brunette then resided and raised her children and grandchildren in Lufkin, TX working at both Memorial and Woodland Heights Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide. She committed her life to providing and taking care of her children as a single parent. She also worked as a cafeteria worker in Lufkin ISD, a cook at Geneva’s Drive-In, operated a flower shop for a few years and later worked at Smith’s Florist. In 1998, she sold her house in Lufkin and moved to Humble, TX, where she resided the remainder of her lifetime. Mother Morris served as a committed worker at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Lufkin, TX, from 1965-1977. She participated on the mission board and was an outstanding worker in the kitchen assisting, coordinating, and personally preparing plates to sell and raise funds. Fried chicken dinners were her specialty. She joined First Pentecostal Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in 1977, under Bishop Curtis Gray, who appointed her as head usher. The church was extremely blessed through her service as usher, missionary, participation with the prison ministry, and caring for the children while the mother’s shouted and praised the Lord. She was considered as one of the church mothers. She was a faithful member through all phases of growth in the ministry and the pastoral transitions that occurred. When her son, Kendrick, became pastor of First Pentecostal, Mother Morris continued to serve as usher, kitchen assistant, occasional cleaning of the church, and numerous other ministries of help. She enjoyed contributing to the ministry, raising funds through bake sales and BBQ dinners. Cakes and cupcakes became a favorite to the church, her family, friends and throughout the neighborhood. After the death of her son (the late Bishop Kendrick Morris), Mother Morris was faithful to the leadership of his wife, Gwendolyn Morris-Hollins. Upon her move to Humble, TX, Mother Morris assisted her daughter, Apostle Karnetta Morris, at Worldwide Prayer and Revival Center in many of the previous stated areas from 1997 to 2016. Upon dissolution of the ministry she followed her daughter to the ministry of God’s Abundant Love Church in 2016, Pastor Andre Carrington, where she was a faithful member through the last years of her life. Mother Morris performed all her duties with a “Spirit of Excellence.” Whether she was perceived as offensive or not, she depicted a philosophy of, “Only the best! Nothing less! She often offset her strictness with kind gestures, gifts, and sweet treats. Her strict but fun-loving, outgoing personality won and comforted the hearts of everyone around her. She never met a stranger! Wherever she went, strangers were drawn to her for hugs and advice. Whenever our good-byes ended with “I Love You,” she put the “MoMo” on you, indicating that she “loved you more.” Brunette Morris is preceded in death by her husband, Hoover Morris; parents Leroy and Roberta Ford; three siblings, Valerie, Virginia, and Charles Ford; three children, Kendrick, Alfonso, and Hoover Damone Morris; and two granddaughters, Tanesha Cretia Morris and, Consuela Latique Morris. She is survived by three siblings Edward Eugene Ford (Shirley Ford) Mary Kathleen West, and Carroll Carey Ford; four children Starlean Brooks, Nathaniel Morris, Karnetta Morris, and Kenneth Morris (Veronica) and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and relatives.
