Mr. Elliott Dewalt Sr.

Elliot DeWalt was born on February 15, 1927 in Houston, Texas to his parents, Mr. Johnnie DeWalt and Ethel Johnson DeWalt; he was the second child of seven children born to this union. Elliot grew up in the 5th Ward area on Hardy Street in Houston, TX. He received his formal education from the Houston ISD school system. Milestones and Legacy It was in 1953 that Elliot became the proud father of a son (Elliot Charles DeWalt, Jr.) With his education and sense of responsibility to himself and family, he enjoyed a long career with Houston Lighting and Power Company which later became CenterPoint Energy from which he retired. In March of 1956 Elliot married Miss. Alberta Johnson; they made their home in the community of Settegast until her death in September 1997; he remained in their family home until his health began to fail him in December 2017. Elliot's life was filled with the things that he enjoyed doing; most who knew him, know that he loved family, Barbecuing, fishing and deer hunting and playing a good game of dominos. He was an independent man with a positive outlook on life; he enjoyed watching television, especially Wrestling, The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Joel Osteen ministries. Although he was a quiet man and a man of few words, you always knew where you stood with him. As we celebrate the life of Mr. DeWalt; let's also remember the Settegast community and especially Bacher St., our street, the street that Mr. DeWalt lived on, as did so many of us here today. As with many families who moved to communities during the 50's and 60's, they moved together in units; brother and brother sister and sister cousins and cousins sometimes all on the same street and sometimes next door to each other. We knew who our neighbors were, and we looked out for one another. Bacher Street gave us many profound and happy memories. Now, it saddens us to see our parents and neighbors leaving us to say their final goodbyes on earth; but, we remember and appreciate a life well lived on Bacher st. He is preceded in death by his wife: Alberta DeWalt, mother: Ethel Dewalt, father: Johnnie DeWalt, brothers: Walter Ray DeWalt and Johnnie DeWalt, Jr. He leaves to cherish is memory: his son, Elliot Charles DeWalt, Jr. and wife (Glenys), two grandchildren: Nicole Celeste DeWalt and Philip Charles Dewalt; one grandchild: Kameron Isaiah Staggers; one brother, Mr. Ernest DeWalt and three sisters, Mrs. Edna Muriel Green, Mrs. Lula Faye Smith and Mrs. Ethel Lee Barnett. Also, he leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
