Mr. Jerry Florence

On December 20, 1958 Jerry Florence was born to Roger and Julie Florence in Lafayette, Louisiana being the youngest of five. He also is preceded in death by his mother and father Julia & Roger Florence and his three brothers Rodney, Leroy and Herman Florence. Jerry Spent most of his earlier years in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He attended Park Elementary and Capital Senior High School. He later moved to Houston, Texas where he married his wife Theresa Hall-Florence in 1996. He then worked for Williams Temple COGIC for 20 years where he served under several bishops. His love for the lay members was always expressed in his good deeds and services. He enjoyed all motor hobbies; race cars, helicopters, & motorcycles. He always stressed the importance of having a strong relationship with God and the importance of education. If he were to watch television, it would be the discovery channel or cowboy movies and if you ever needed something fixed, he was an all-around carpenter and mechanic. In the eyes of his children he was always a provider, protector but most importantly he was a disciplinarian. He believed strongly in the scripture of spare the rod-spoil the child. Unlike some families where you slept in on Saturday mornings and woke up to cartoons, we'd wake up to gospel music and Saturday morning chores. Dad would never forget to ask us if we'd spent some time with the Lord before we'd pick our phones up or turned a T.V on. He'd always bless us with some of life’s most valuable lessons. Things like saving money, picking friends, doing things for others and not expecting something back, relationships, but most importantly family and a connection with God. Any time we needed something Dad was always there to give all his knowledge and care to us. School programs, Graduations, Basketballs games and anything that his family and kids were apart of Dad was there. He leaves to mourn in his passing his wife, Theresa Hall-Florence, 7 Daughters; Tyequica Simpson (Anthony), Tykeisha Florence, Tandra Breaux (Lamar), Sherese Hall-Tate (James), Tamella Hall, Vontrese Florence, Sheika Hudson and his only son Jerry Florence II. One sister Margaret Baines-Florence, 13 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
