"On April 7, 1948 George and Johnetta West welcomed their first child, a baby girl, named Jimmie LaRuth into their home. Not only was Jimmie the first child born to her parents she was the first grandchild and niece of her MomÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s five sisters. She was affectionately given the nickname Cookie. As the first Cookie developed leadership skills at a very early age. Not only was she big sister to her siblings John Butch and Jennifri Jenny she was the big cousin to her other six first cousins who eventually joined her.\r\nShe was an honor student at Piney Point Elementary School, Richard G. Lockett Junior High School and Jack Yates Senior High School. She was voted a Class Favorite in her senior year. As a young child growing up in the Piney Point community Jimmie would often visit elderly neighborhoods offering to run errands and perform chores to help them in any way that she could. It surprised no one when she enrolled in Texas WomanÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s University TWU to pursue a degree in nursing. Jimmie earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing BSN; Master of Science in Nursing MSN and Master of Business Administration MBA from TWU.\r\nThe combination of her professional nurses training and her compassion and love for people resulted in her becoming the consummate nursing professional. Her ingenious perspective and foresight allowed her to serve in many capacities while practicing her craft. It was always important to her that her work serve the purpose of improving the quality of life for others whether she was a staff nurse or an administrator. She served in diverse capacities at several Houston hospitals and clinics, the Houston Independent School District and the Harris County Hospital District where she spent the majority of her career.\r\nIn 2011, Jimmie retired from the Hospital District to become the Ã¢â‚¬Å“Director of Homework and Science Fair ProjectsÃ¢â‚¬Â for her beloved grandchildren . To keep her busy, she also joined the Gospel Choir at Holy Family Catholic Church and exquisitely planned and coordinated many memorable events for friends and family. \r\nWhen Jimmie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer she approached her disease head to head determined not to give up without a fight and fight she did.\r\nIn the presence of her devoted daughters, Raechelle and Dana, Jimmie quietly slept away on Friday, October 11, 2013 to join her parents and her brother in her new home.\r\nLeft to treasure endless fond memories are her daughters Raechelle and Dana whom she loved unconditionally, grandchildren which she adored more than anything; sister and brother in law Jennifri and Frankel Howell of Arlington; Texas, 2 Aunts and many other relatives and friends.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n"
