Mrs. Ruth Pratt

Mother Ruth Pratt entered this world on April 25, 1923 in Greenwood, Mississippi. She was the third oldest out of the six children. Her parents, Lynn and Tennie Johnson and preceded her in death. Mother Pratt relocated to River Rouge, Michigan as a very young woman searching for a better more productive life. She was instrumental in helping her entire family to relocate to Michigan. Mother Pratt married at an early age to Martin Hoskins and to that union two children were born, Leona Hoskins and E. A. Hoskins. Her husband preceded her in death. In 1951 she met and married the true love of her life, Robert Pratt until his death in 1998. They were blessed with one daughter, Shirley Pratt-Miles. In 2007 Mother Pratt suffered the loss of her eldest daughter, Leona Hoskins-Patrick, but continued to be strong. Mother Pratt was the matriarch of the family. She was always providing wisdom, always lending a hand and always loving each of her family members. Mother Pratt accepted Christ at the early age of 8 with her mother and siblings while attending the “Sanctified” church, later to be known as the Church of God In Christ. After moving to Michigan, she became a member of Gordy Memorial COGIC in River Rouge, Michigan under pastorage of Supt. John W. Gordy. She continued to worship at Gordy Memorial until moving to Detroit where she joined Hartford Street COGIC (later known as Miller Memorial COGIC) under the late Bishop U. E. Miller. Bishop Miller saw the leadership qualities in Mother and appointed her to the teaching position of the Prayer and Bible Band. She held that position for over 40 years teaching and touching the lives of hundreds of souls. Mother Pratt was not only a teacher, she was an anointed Evangelist. She travelled all over the U. S. and Caribbean carrying the word of God to whomever would listen. Down through the years she continued to serve under Bishop E. J. Wright becoming the Chairman of the Mothers Board at Greater Miller Memorial COGIC, (Warren, Michigan) chairing numerous Pastoral Anniversaries, Women’s Day Programs, Benevolent Committee and doing whatever she could do to further the work of the Lord. In 2012, she was blessed to moved to Spring, Texas where she joined the North Main COGIC and was a faithful member. She loved her pastor and church family, but always said she was ready to go home to be with the Lord whenever he called her. On Tuesday morning, January 8, 2019, God decided her work on this earth was complete and dispatched an angel to receive our dear mother unto himself. She leaves to celebrate and cherish her memories, her son, Bishop E. A. Hoskins (Jeanne) of Macomb Twp. Michigan, her baby daughter Shirley Pratt-Miles of Spring Texas, Son-in-Law Anthony Miles of Utica, Michigan, grandchildren Carlos and David Hoskins of Plano, TX, Saray Hoskins-Severt of Cross Road, TX, Jason (April) Miles of Houston, TX, great-grandchildren, Jordan, Carmen, Marissa, Kianna, Nicholas and Julian, God-daughters Bonita Wells of Southfield, Michigan and Gwen Carter of Houston, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
