Mr. Stephen Prothow

Stephen Roy Prothow, better known as “Steve”, was born to the proud parents of Lee Andrew Prothow, Sr., and Rosa Jones Prothow in Houston, TX on April 24, 1958. He was the youngest of five children. He received his education in the Houston Independent School District attending; Rosa Lee Easter Elementary School, I.M. Terrell Junior High School, and Kashmere Senior High School. Upon completion of high school, Steve joined the U.S. Army. After completing basic and specialty training, he was stationed in Germany serving from 1976 – 1979, receiving an honorable Discharge, and returning home. While pursuing his education at Houston Community College and North Harris County Junior College, Steve was recruited by Houston Lighting & Power as a full-time employee. He established a reputation as a committed, hard worker and friend. October 1995, after 14 years with HL & P, he accepted employment with AT & T. As usual, Stephen devoted himself to his work until the day God called him home. Proverbs 18:22 NIV states; “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.” Steve found his good thing when he and Andrea Hobley entered into holy matrimony. This union proved to be the perfect complement and a match that was definitely made in Heaven. They were blessed to parent a daughter Jennifer and a son Malcolm. Steve’s family meant everything to him! He was an honorable man who went the extra mile to care and provide for his family. One of his greatest accomplishments, was moving his family to the country. Steve enjoyed entertaining at his new home, allowing his guests to “leave the city smog and breathe fresh country air”, while relaxing on his perfectly manicured grass. At an early age, he was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, and was baptized by Rev. H.B. Sampson, Sr. After the death of his father-in-law, Pastor Robert M. Hobley, Steve became the backbone of the family. He wanted to lead the family in a way that pleased God joining Gospel Hill Baptist Church where under the leadership of Pastor Floyd Young, he studied the Word of God and was ordained as a Deacon. His church membership transitioned to Forest Lawn Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Ricky Bell. Steve loved his church and the task he was assigned as a Deacon. He did not take the role God gave him lightly or for granted, but was dedicated to sharing Pastor Bell’s sermons, and uplifting scriptures on social media as well as, in conversation. Steve served faithfully until God called him home. On April 27, 2018, Stephen Roy Prothow, joined that great cloud of witnesses which includes his father; Lee Andrew Prothow, Sr.; brother Lee Andrew Prothow, Jr.; sister Verna Ruth Prothow-Malone; father-in-law Pastor Robert M. Hobley, and many others who have gone on to receive their reward. Cherishing and celebrating his life and legacy; his wife of 33 years, Andrea; daughter Jennifer; son Malcolm; mother Rosa Jones Prothow; sister Carolyn Prothow-Lewis; brother Terrell Ryan Prothow (Curlee); only remaining aunt Eddie Lee Green; mother-in-law Erma J. Hobley; brothers-in-law Wendell (Wendy), Michael, Adrian (Tabitha) Hobley; godchildren Jasmine Hobley, Kimberlyn Perry, Jasmine Carrington, Lauren Hobley, Peyton Phillips; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Steve will surely be missed by all but, never forgotten.
