Mrs. Joyce Taylor Bertrand

On January 25, 2019, Joyce Ann Taylor Bertrand earned her heavenly wings. Her new home allows a place where she will join loved ones and her Heavenly Father. Joyce Ann Taylor Bertrand was born on January 3, 1935 in Grand Coteau, LA to Walter Taylor and Theresa Singleton Taylor. She was baptized at birth and confirmed into the Catholic Faith at an early age. She also lived in Bellevue, LA and later moved back to Grand Coteau where she attended Catholic School as well as public school. She truly loved her hometown of Grand Coteau and all of the wonderful people she had known over the years. On July 2, 1955, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Earl Phillip Bertrand. To this union 6 children were born; Marie Elaine, Brenda Faye, Earl David, Kimberly Ann, Ronda Melette, and Christopher John. Joyce and Earl were loving parents who nurtured and raised their children in the Catholic faith in their younger years. Joyce was a longtime member of St. Anne De Beaupre Catholic Church since 1955 where she faithfully served until her health declined. Joyce was indeed a loving and caring person who everyone loved to be around. There was never a dull moment when in her presence. Affectionately known as Gran, she extended much love to everyone and especially to her Grand and Great Grandchildren. Joyce’s love for her family was not only limited to her immediate household, but also extended to caring for several of her siblings during their illnesses. Being a teacher of life, we were blessed to learn many valuable lessons during her 84 years. Among them were, maintaining a spotless house, decorating, preparing delicious creole meals for her family, thrift store shopping, designing outfits for her children, gardening which is evident by her beautiful yard, a strong work ethic and an appreciation for the blues and zydeco. She was proceeded in death by her devoted husband of 42 years, Earl Phillip Bertrand and a loving daughter, Brenda Faye Bertrand Oliver; her parents, Walter and Theresa Taylor, 3 Brothers; Harold Taylor, James Taylor, Raymond Taylor, 3 Sisters; Betty Taylor Malbreau, Jane Madelyn Taylor Southall and Emma Taylor Citizen. Memories of her will be cherished by her children: Elaine Bertrand Thomas (Kenneth), Earl David Bertrand (Kristi), Kimberly Lee (Fabian), Ronda Bertrand Hicks and Christopher Bertrand all of the Houston area. Joyce’s legacy continues on in the lives of her Grandchildren; Jasmine Bertrand, Brittany Bertrand, Fabian Lee, Jr., Tiffany Bertrand, Chelsey Coleman, Earl David Bertrand, Jr., Jade Bertrand, Cameron Oliver, Caylan Oliver and Victoria Lee. Great-Grandchildren; Kelvin (KJ), Caylei, Cory, Chase, Carly, Marlei and Zayden. One surviving sister, Barbara Taylor Bernard of Arnaudville, LA and a cousin, Ann Taylor Mayfield of Grand Coteau, LA, who was also like a sister, one sister-in-law, Alma Bertrand of Plaisance, LA and one “special” brother-in-law, Ervin Bertrand of Houston, Texas. She also leaves to cherish her memories many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and a host of family and friends.
