Mrs. Margaret Handy

Margaret Love-Handy was born on October 14, 1946 in Houston, Texas to the late Albert Curtis & Lucille (Barnes) Hubbard. She was the fourth of seven children. Margaret was reared in a loving, Christian family. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a faithful member of the Bellavista Missionary Baptist Church for more than 60 years, under the leadership of G.H. Nickerson, Calvin J. Abraham and Jacari Davis. On Sundays, when she couldn’t make it to church, she truly appreciated being able to watch the services online from her home computer. She attended Burress Elementary and Booker T. Washington High School. After high school, she attended and graduated from Texas Southern University on May 21, 1970, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree of Science in Health & Physical Education. During her college years, she worked part time at Foley’s, and this is where she developed her passion for fashionable clothes, hats and shoes. After graduating college, Margaret taught school at E.O. Smith Elementary. She also taught History and Physical Education at Booker T. Washington High School. She later switched careers and became employed at the City of Houston and worked in the Planning & Development Department as the Chief over Dangerous Buildings. She worked with the City of Houston for more than 25 years and retired in 2003 at the age of 57. Margaret enjoyed shopping at her favorite stores, shopping with the Home Shopping Network (HSN), and shopping online. As you can see, she really loved to shop, but her shopping excursions not only benefited her, because she generously bought items for many of her family members, her grandchildren and church members. Margaret was kindhearted and her doors were never closed to anyone needing assistance whether it was financial or physical. Margaret was also known for cooking delicious meals for her family. She was known for her delectable ham and deviled eggs. She also loved to bake her highly requested chocolate chip cookies, her “rich” coconut cake, and her scrumptious yellow butter cake with chocolate icing. She also enjoyed spending time with her family on Sundays after church, holidays and birthdays. Margaret met and married Benny Love until the Lord called him home in March 1979. She then married Joseph Roy Handy and to this union a beautiful daughter was born. Over 30 years ago, she met Odis Harris, her friend and companion. Margaret Love-Handy received her heavenly wings on Thursday, February 28, 2019. Margaret is preceded in death by parents Albert and Lucille Hubbard, her sister Peggy Catalon, and brother Wayne Hubbard. She leaves to embrace her memories, her daughter Crystal Padmore, and son-in-law, George Padmore. Grandchildren: Tyler, Janelle and Grace. Siblings: Barbara Hubbard, Albert Hubbard (Ruthie), Fred Hubbard (Carolyn), and Joyce Coleman (Charles) of Vallejo, CA., and Special Family Friend, James Lewis and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends to carry on her legacy.
